A New Bathroom Floor!

Well, my dad and I made a little drive out of town yesterday to pick up some fancy vinyl tiles.  I had come across these tiles while living in Cleveland, yet they are exclusive to Home Depot...and the closest store is 30 miles away!  But I loved the tiles so much that I have done a couple of bathrooms with them already.  They are easy to work with, easy to lay, easy to cut, and guests can't tell they aren't porcelain tile!  Now that's the best part!

Here's my first experience with this tile about five years ago...

And then I did another bathroom project with them a few months after that...

Needless to say, I've had good experience with these tiles.

So I figured it was worth the short drive in order to have these tiles again.  I was out the door for $75 with enough flooring to do two bathrooms!  That is just hard to beat.  To put that into perspective, I currently have $1000 allotted for the three bathroom flooring projects in my budget spreadsheet.

I had already ripped up the floor, so it was time to go at it.  You basically lay out the tiles to make sure you won't have any small tile pieces in corners, on edges, around toilets. etc. and then start laying!  So that's what I did.

First I had to remove the wax from around the toilet flange.
It took me an hour and a half to lay the tiles.

The floor before I began...

All the tiles are laid!

Such a better look!

Nice straight lines ready for grout.

Ready for grout!
So then I started the grout.  You mix up a nice peanut-buttery-like mixture and then go at it!  Again, not very difficult.  A bit messy, but fairly easy.  That took me about another hour and a half with clean-up.

My grout ready to be spread.

Starting the grout!

Once that dries in 20 minutes, I'll wipe up!

A brand new floor!

The grout is darker than I would have liked, but it's so much better than the previous floor!

Look at that tile!

But what you have is an amazing floor that looks just like tile!  It's seriously hard to beat.  I was able to update the entire bathroom floor for about $40.  That's just nuts!  AND people can't tell it's not tile!

It's a win-win.

I'm planning to do the other upstairs bathroom tomorrow.  But I need to make a few flooring repairs first before I can start.  The current linoleum is curling in a couple of areas.

My home value increased today!
